“The President reiterated that Egypt has not and will never allow the displacement of the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egyptian territories,” the Egypt readout said. “The American President also confirmed that the U.S. rejects the displacement of the Palestinians outside their lands.”
Biden and Sisi “discussed the importance of … ensuring that Palestinians in Gaza are not displaced to Egypt or any other nation,” the White House said in its readout, which appears to have been the first time the president has delivered this message publicly.
[No surprise, but perhaps some disappointment for Israel, which had hoped to convince Egypt to allow Gazans to resettle in the Sinai. As I’ve written before, there was always zero chance of that, mainly because the Gazans would have gone to war with Israel again in hopes of getting Egypt to go to war against Israel after reprisals. I suspect that the Israeli ‘idea’ was more a junior-level spitball than a serious proposal for the same reason. — Ed]
