Republican Rep. Jim Jordan says he’s “real close” to securing enough votes to win House speakership ballot, with a final vote for all 434 members expected Tuesday. …
“I feel real good about the momentum we have and I think we’re real close,” Jordan told reporters Monday on Capitol Hill. “We’ll go to the floor tomorrow. It’s not about pressing anybody, it’s just about we’ve got to have a speaker.”
[Jordan will be fine. Scalise would have been fine, and so would have Austin Scott, Tom Emmer, or Patrick McHenry. In the end, nothing will change, because the next House Speaker will face the same circumstances as McCarthy did: a five-seat margin in the House, while Democrats control the Senate and the White House, with the constitutional responsibility to pass budgets. — Ed]
