Communist countries have nothing on the current US government when it comes to exerting total control over the lives of citizens and Dr. George Koob, who heads up the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, suggests that a country that was long the shining beacon of freedom to the rest of the world should mimic the authoritarian dictatorship north of the border in setting limits on how much booze Americans are allowed to ingest.
Dr. Koob told the Daily Mail that the USDA could soon revise its advice on alcohol consumption to put it in line with Justin Trudeau’s Canada where citizens of the beer-loving nation are advised that the government finds it acceptable to have a mere two drinks per week.
While the federal bureaucrat is no teetotaler, he admits to knocking back a few glasses of Chardonnay a week, he told the outlet that he’s keeping a close eye on Canada’s “big experiment” in social control after the country recently began to urge people to limit their boozing to two drinks a week.
“If there’s health benefits, I think people will start to re-evaluate where we’re at,” Koob told the outlet.
[Bear in mind that this isn’t a functional ‘limit,’ but instead a health recommendation. That and five bucks will get you a six-pack of a decent beer and a case of Bud Light these days. No one really pays attention to federal health guidelines any more, especially after the catastrophic advice given out in the 1970s to reduce fat while increasing carb intake. It’s yet another area where the “rule of experts” has proven incompetent. People will continue to make their own choices. Well, at least here in the US. — Ed]
