ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, CBS’ Stephen Colbert and NBC’s Seth Meyers have been permanently banned from Russia, according to a new list of names released by the Russian government.
On Friday the Russian Foreign Ministry released a list of 500 Americans that it says are now banned from from entering the country, with a statement declaring that the decision to ban them is in response to U.S. sanctions.
The list of names includes plenty of politicians (including former President Barack Obama) as well as academics, military and law enforcement officers, and employees or arms suppliers and tech firms. But it also includes a handful of people from the world of entertainment and media.
[I’m sure they’re all heartbroken to be suddenly more relevant than they have been in years. The list itself is an exercise in absurdity. Rachel Maddow also earns a lifetime ban, as does Keith Ellison, Letitia James, CNN’s Erin Burnett, and “Donald Davis (Donald Gene Davis) – Member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party (Piece of North Carolina)”. Piece of North Carolina? Heh. That’s an auto-translate artifact, obviously. It looks like they just ran down a list of some Democrats and progressives in order to fill out enough names, although Senate Republican J.D. Vance somehow makes the list at #76, and about 30 or so Republicans make this list, too. Their entries make just as little sense as the rest of these. — Ed]
