New: Walensky resigns from CDC

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, submitted her resignation Friday, saying the waning of the COVID-19 pandemic was a good time to make a transition.

Walensky’s last day will be June 30, CDC officials said, and an interim director wasn’t immediately named. She sent a resignation letter to President Joe Biden and announced the decision at a CDC staff meeting.

[Walensky was a disaster as CDC director. She never could get aligned with the shifting talking points of the White House on COVID, and she did nothing to fix the biggest issue in data collection — separating causal from correlative data on deaths and hospital admissions. That was such an obvious issue that the failure to address it even after two years of promises to do so looks like a deliberate act to prop up the “emergency” powers that Biden and the White House wanted to continue wielding. — Ed]
