Seattle SuperSonics legend Shawn Kemp was booked into the Pierce County Jail on Wednesday, FOX 13 News has learned. Sources close to Kemp say the shooting was in self-defense.
Kemp was booked into jail in connection with a drive-by shooting outside the Tacoma Mall. …
Police said nobody was hurt in the shooting, and that the suspect initially identified as a 53-year-old man was detained at the scene.
[I used scare quotes for “drive-by,” the term Seattle outlets are using, because this isn’t normally what one considers such a case. A drive-by shooting when I lived in Los Angeles was when people opened fire on pedestrians or houses while rolling past them. This looks more like a parking-lot dispute than a “drive-by.” Also, these details are preliminary, so bear that in mind. At first blush, self-defense might be a tough call if this was over a property dispute or theft, but perhaps more will come out to make that argument more supportable. It will be interesting to see this unfold, certainly. At least no one got hurt. — Ed]
