Apologists for Democratic Socialists: They're socialists, not communists!

DSA's agenda and leadership: We're gonna seize the means of production and repeal the US Constitution.

Shannon Bream asked Megan Romer to clarify the DSA's agenda on yesterday's Fox News Sunday. Romer didn't exhibit any doubt or nuance on these positions. She didn't attempt to contextualize the agenda or argue that it is merely aspirational. Romer told Bream yesterday that the DSA agenda means exactly what it says, and that they plan to end America's constitutional structure once given power ... or once they seize it. Six of one, half-dozen of another ...

We have taken note of the DSA's official platform before, which the party published last month as an update to its previous agenda. It is every bit as fanciful as Bream makes out here, and Romer's confirmation of it makes it clear that they take it literally. This isn't a promise to push a slightly more collectivist version of Bernie Sanders' expressed agenda; it is transformational, and it would literally end the American form of government at all levels.

The platform makes that explicitly clear:

Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress. ...

Replace the two-party system with a multi-party democracy. Expand the House of Representatives, implement proportional representation and ranked choice voting in all elections, and abolish the Senate.

This would require the repeal of Articles I, II, and III of the US Constitution, which would then require ratification by three-quarters of the states. That is what makes this "fanciful," but fanciful does not mean benign or harmless. The DSA and its candidates are not just an incremental iteration of the Bernie Bros; they are a radical and revolutionary party whose agenda and platform can only be implemented by force. The US Constitution and the federalist system have too many safeguards against radical change, which leaves only force and revolution for these changes.

Like all good communists, the DSA wants to replace small-R republican institutions with a politburo that handles all of the functions of the state: executive, legislative, and judicial. They claim to want a "multi-party democracy," but "proportional representation" requires a top-down authority that cannot be exercised in any kind of democracy, whether it would be a two- or multi-party system. Ranked choice voting adds more opacity to the election process that would be run by the same authority that would enforce "proportional representation," as envisaged by the DSA on their standards of "representation." Don't expect that to be limited to merely population numbers, either; the DSA platform is filled with references to woke policies.

Like all socialist systems, the DSA would expropriate and nationalize "essential" industries in the name of "democracy." Where have we heard this before? Does Venezuela come to mind? I think it does:

Establish public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries to ensure democratic control and accountability to the people. Enact aggressive wealth taxes on the richest individuals and corporations to spend on public goods and infrastructure.

These DSA activists and candidates do not want to just win elections. They want a toehold for a revolution. It is not a game to them, nor a pose, and the events of the last century make very clear what the outcomes of such a revolution will be. People would get put up against the wall for not being sufficiently revolutionary; the nation would plunge into poverty and collapse. Even winning an attempted revolution against the constitutional order would devastate the country, and the DSA does not plan on losing one.

When communists tell you who they are, believe them. And vote accordingly ... while you still can. This is not a "red scare," it is a Code Red, and Megan Romer just gave Shannon Bream a Colonel Jessup moment.
