Senior ISIS leader killed; four US troops, dog wounded

A joint operation between U.S. forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces on Thursday evening led to the death of senior Islamic State leader Hamza al-Homsi and left four U.S. servicemembers and a working dog wounded.

United States Central Command announced the raid on Friday, saying “an explosion on target resulted in four U.S. servicemembers and one working dog wounded.”

“The U.S. servicemembers and working dog are receiving treatment in a U.S. medical facility in Iraq,” the press release continued.

[Apparently, al-Homsi was a regional leader in eastern Syria. His death will likely degrade ISIS coordination and operations there at least for a while, but not central ISIS command. — Ed]
