Well it’s just the cool color du jour, that’s all! The companies and products just want to be cool. Why stand out when you can use a palette that makes everything blur together?

[Maybe they expected the Giants to make it to the Super Bowl? I don’t think this is a coincidence, but I also don’t think it has anything to do with politics. It’s likely more attributable to the modern fascination with “dark” motifs and the lack of originality in creating it. — Ed]
