Yes, I DO know that "moderate" and "Democrat" really don't belong in the same sentence (although I continue to insist that there is a cohort of moderate Democrat voters, although very few moderate Democrat politicians of any note).
That's why I have taken to distinguishing the two factions at war in the Democratic Party as being the "Organized Crime Democrats," who use the party as a tool to grab money and power to further their own interests, and the "Bolshevik" Democrats, who want to seize everything in what amounts to a Communist, mostly bloodless coup.
The OCDs helped build up the Bolsheviks, seeing them as committed ground troops who were willing to risk prison and commit crimes as Brownshirts, so they funneled money into their organizations and helped the teachers' unions and universities become powerhouses with unlimited cash, and catered to their delusions about evil America.
The OCDs have finally awoken to the fact that they are seen as just as much the enemy as the Republicans, and that the Bolsheviks are starting to put them up against the wall, and not just Donald Trump and MAGA. And they are scared.

It's fascinating, in the same way that a fatal car crash is, to watch the Bolsheviks mouthing the Frankfurt School theories and play out the final stages of the "Long March Through the Institutions," and Mamdani has even quoted Gramsci, likely as a "flip the bird" moment to the OCDs, who funded the universities that taught the Bolsheviks how to win a modern communist revolution in an advanced industrial state.

OCDs loved the fact that there was a growing Leftist ideological movement because they assumed that they would always be the most reliable voters they could have. After all, this is why they invested massively in "higher education" to create finishing schools for radicals, turning middle- and upper-middle-class kids who would otherwise aspire to become professionals, middle managers, or accountants into activists hostile to the wealth-generating and usefully productive parts of the economy.

They created an NGO complex, lavishly funded it, and cultivated a movement in which "community organizer" was a respected, even prestigious, job, not realizing that those communities would begin organizing against them. They assumed interdependency, with the Organized Crime Democrats being the bosses.
Gramsci and his DSA descendants always understood that their time would come. And it has.

What makes Mamdani's rise in New York City and the growing power of the DSA there and around the country so scary to the OCDs is that, of all places, they should have been able to stop Mamdani there. He is now Hakeem Jeffries' mayor, and Chuck Schumer can walk to Gracie Mansion any time he likes when he is in the state.
The two most powerful elected Democrats in the country were gelded by a Ugandan communist who only became a US citizen in 2018. Most of his family's wealth is squirreled away in Africa, where he and his family have a massive walled compound protected by Ugandan regime special forces.

Schumer is already a dead man walking politically, and he knows it. AOC, who, unlike Mamdani, is eligible to become President of the United States (and some Obama folks are grooming her for that role), could easily take him out in 2030 if she would like to. The only reason that Hakeem Jeffries is still in office is that Mamdani discouraged the DSA from putting up a primary candidate, perhaps thinking that having a Speaker of the House or Minority Leader in your pocket is more useful than having a back-bencher shouting from the bleachers in Washington.

The OCDs have thought that they had been managing the radical wing of their party pretty well, not paying attention to the alarm bells ringing for over a decade. The Democrats have not had a genuine primary system in place since 2008, when Barack Obama wrested the nomination away from Hillary Clinton. Obama was a stalking horse for the Bolsheviks, although he was so smooth and Mamdani-like that the OCDs fell in love with him after they reconciled themselves to waiting until 2016 for their shot.
And in 2016, they rigged the system. Trump then wrested the presidency from HRC, thwarting the OCDs again. In 2020, the OCDs picked the most corrupt Democrat available, Joe Biden, and shoved him down the party's throat. In 2024, there was no process at all.
It was all a holding action, though. Obama's victory was the first crack in the dike, and now the dike is breaking.
Since Obama's victory, the DSA has been organizing, plotting, using all that government-provided NGO money and academia infrastructure to organize their coup, and they are making their move.

The issues du jour are, of course, "Palestine" and ICE, but the issues are never the issues. The revolution is always the underlying issue. They thought climate change would be their wedge, but it never caught on the way that the fake genocide in Gaza and "kidnappings" on American streets have.

Suburban moms may worry about the weather, but they love their minivans, air conditioning, and upper-middle-class lifestyles. Immigration and fake genocides are easier luxury beliefs to get behind. It fits the "compassion" narrative better than the global warming narrative.

Some OCDs still think that they can wrestle back control of the party because they will retain the majority of the seats in Congress. After all, the DSA only owns the Deep Blue areas so far.
They have a point, but not as good a one as they think. The DSA is in the ideological driver's seat. Look at Maine, which is hardly Deep Blue. The DSA insisted it wanted a Communist with a Totenkopf tattoo, and by God, they got him, soundly defeating a popular OCD governor.

It's hard—perhaps impossible—to feel that sorry for the OCDs, given how absolutely morally bankrupt and corrupt they are. But you have to have a heart of stone to watch how they are getting hounded out of the places where they thought they owned everything, and to see their imminent destruction barreling at them.

Scott Weiner is, as I have called him, the most dangerous legislator in America, but even he is not communist enough and is too Jewish for the radicals he helped foster. The DSA leaders of the Revolution want to minimize the bloodshed, but they are clear-eyed about what it will take to seize the power in the Democratic Party, and are happy to wink and nod at the Luigi Mangiones and Antifa Brownshirts.
The propaganda victory after October 7th and then the ICE "protests" signaled that now is the time. The Bolsheviks control the propaganda field, and now want to capitalize on that success to seize power.

Most groups are pragmatic and believe in hard work; they just want a fair shot, but these people want something far worse and more perverse.
The alarming part is that they end up in leadership roles and eventually begin to slowly corrupt other groups with their thinking by telling them, “You can’t achieve or ever be successful in the current system unless it’s completely destroyed,” and eventually that message resonates. They’re dangerous and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the halls of power, and frankly should be classified as political extremists.
It's working. The OCDs have, until this moment, thought they were capitalizing on the "passion" of the younger base of radical voters, not realizing that they were creating the force that would destroy them.
So far, few of those OCDs have genuinely fought back, and James Carville isn't exactly going to lead a counterrevolution, and John Fetterman is getting excommunicated for trying to do so.

He does not talk about himself as an American, nor does he speak of New York as a component of the United States. Quite the opposite, in fact.
And aside from his official portraits, he is never voluntarily photographed with or around an American flag. And he is WAY too conscious of optics for that to be anything other than deliberate.
He (and the DSA with him) will use the power of this city to wage a soft civil war against the nation itself.
It is LONG PAST TIME for an appropriately severe reaction from the federal government. The Constitution is not a suicide pact. This is not politics, this is the enemy.
The Democratic Party civil war is far from decided, of course. The Empire will strike back somehow. But they are on the back foot, running scared, and even if they gain control of the House of Representatives, their left flank is now bigger and stronger and will be difficult to deal with.
