And it’s not like the Dallas defense wasn’t primed and ready and gunning for the young Purdy. If anything, Prescott, sacked just once for no loss, had more time to find receivers than Purdy did all afternoon at Levi’s Stadium but too often Dak found the wrong team.
Of the eight starting quarterbacks who started divisional playoff games, Prescott was the only quarterback to throw two interceptions. In the old days, two was not a lot. In the modern game, where the Cowboys defense led the NFL by averaging just under two takeaways per game, it’s a fatal dose. …
You can spend all the time you like discussing Brett Maher and his collapse in the playoffs. But teams can discard kickers and move on. Despite what the owner says, the Cowboys have to spend seven months figuring out how to fix a quarterback problem they didn’t anticipate having as Prescott turns 30 in July.
[Prescott now has underperformed in playoffs under two head coaches, a couple of different offense systems, and now with not one but *two* top-tier running backs to share the load. Prescott and Kirk Cousins are perennial underperformers when it comes to playoffs, and both teams may have to look hard at their marquee QBs to solve their problems. — Ed]
