Tesla founder and Twitter owner Elon Musk has thrown his support behind Rep. Kevin McCarthy — as the California lawmaker’s bid to become speaker has been stymied by a group of roughly 20 hardline conservatives.

“Kevin McCarthy should be Speaker,” the billionaire tech titan tweeted early Thursday, garnering almost 40,000 likes within hours.

McCarthy has so far lost six votes in the House — three on Tuesday and three more on Wednesday — before the chamber adjourned Wednesday evening, preventing a seventh ballot.
