Trump confirms "good conversation" with Taliban leader

President Trump said Tuesday that he had a “good conversation” with the co-founder of the Taliban and that both leaders agreed that they do not want violence in Afghanistan.

“We had a good conversation. We don’t want violence. We’ll see what happens,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before departing for a meeting at the National Institutes of Health.

A Taliban spokesman tweeted earlier Tuesday that Trump spoke with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who also serves as the Taliban’s chief negotiator, by phone and that details of the call would be provided later.
