If a new Mount Rushmore were designed today, it’s reasonable to argue it should look very different. But who would make the cut?

To imagine a new mountain, one that reflects the nation we live in now, we asked a collection of writers and historians for suggestions. Who are the figures Americans should stand below and gaze up at? Who speaks to 21st-century America, or exemplifies some essential American value, or has been overlooked for too long?
