The Amazon-slayers are only getting started

The same day as the Amazon news, JP Morgan Chase, yielding to community concerns, revised its proposal for a new headquarters tower at 270 Park Avenue to include 10,000 square feet of outdoor public space, compared to 7,000 square feet indoors in its earlier plan.

But the Amazon deal’s foes weren’t interested in compromise. They wanted to kill it — period. Having gotten their way, they’ll surely set their sights on more targets. JP Morgan, which still needs City Council approval for 270 Park Ave., had better be on guard.

Air-rights transfers must be allowed to permit worthy projects to rise in Midtown. More rezonings are needed in every borough to encourage affordable-housing construction. Waterfront projects must go forward to create new public parks.

All are “exploitative” in the eyes of the Ocasio-Cortez crowd. Their defeat of Amazon will encourage less radical pols to hop on the train.
