Trump wants a July 4th parade in Washington

“A ‘Salute to America’ parade,” the president said at a meeting of his cabinet at the White House. He called it more of “a gathering, as opposed to a parade, I guess you’d have to say.”

Jim Mattis, the former defense secretary, famously objected to having the American military march in lock step down Constitution Avenue, flanked by tanks and fighter planes. So Mr. Trump is enlisting David Bernhardt, the acting secretary of the interior, whose department oversees the National Park Services.

“Perhaps at the Lincoln Memorial,” Mr. Trump mused of a location of a celebration.
