The electoral college is an undemocratic anachronism. Scrap it.

There is a delicious irony of Trumpistas upholding the elitist 18th century constitution, while their opponents cry foul.

Both sides knew the rules of the game when they entered the contest, so it is hard not to feel uneasy about the shenanigans in the Electoral College.

But the College is a relic of a time when ordinary voters knew far less about the choice of candidates on offer than they do now in the age of television, Facebook and Twitter.

For the second time in just five elections, the Electoral College is about to hand the keys to the White House to a candidate who lost the popular vote.
