Thank God it's Trump. Now Republicans and Democrats will both have to change.

Just how great a revolution in our politics this is—the election of a leader whose background totally unlike that of anyone else who has served as president—is just beginning to sink in.

But the time was right: we had reached a dead end with Republicans and Democrats fighting set-piece battles with one another. The old ideologies had burned themselves out, and our leaders had lost touch with the people.

Trump truly defeated not one but both of America’s political parties, and now Republicans and Democrats alike will have to change, to become more responsive to the country’s needs in the 21st century. It’s long overdue.
