“That’s not a word I would use,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee said on ABC’s “This Week” when asked if it was “appropriate” to use the word “irredeemable.”
“I wouldn’t use it. I think we would be unrealistic to think that some people are going to fundamentally change their views. If they’ve clung to the view for five years, as Donald Trump has, that President Obama is not a citizen of this country, I don’t think they’re going to change their views.”
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spurred controversy earlier this month when she categorized half of Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” She said some of those supporters are “irredeemable.”
She later expressed regret for saying “half” of the GOP nominee’s supporters were deplorable.
