Obama: I can't rap

President Barack Obama was brutally honest on Thursday: He can’t rap.

“That’s one thing I can’t do is rap,” Obama said during an unexpected visit at the first lady’s “Beating the Odds” event in the East Room, according to a White House pool report. “I like rap, but I can’t rap. I got enough of a rap that I got Michelle to marry me.”

But Obama hasn’t shied away from breaking out into song before. During an appearance at the Apollo Theater in Harlem during his reelection campaign in 2012, Obama sang a bit from Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” provoking cheers from the audience.

“Those guys didn’t think I would do it! I told you I was going to do it,” Obama said, pointing off stage after singing some bars from the song.
