New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said it would be “irresponsible” for lawmakers to shut down the federal government.
“Well I think it is always irresponsible if you are running the government to be advocating for shutting it down,” Christie said in a portion of an interview to air Sunday on CBS.

“That by definition is a failure. You’ve got to work it out. They’ll work it out this week. I’m confident they will, because I don’t believe anyone wants to go down that road.”
Christie avoided any direct criticism in the excerpt of Senate or House Republicans, or President Obama.
