Why, these Republicans certainly are reckless

But Republicans seem unable to listen and unwilling to heed the lessons of their own past. Americans were outraged in 1995 and 1996 when the GOP leadership shut down the government, just as voters were furious in 2011 when the party’s brinkmanship on default triggered the first credit-rating downgrade in U.S. history. A CNN poll from last week shows that if the government does shut down, 51 percent of Americans will blame the Republicans, with just 33 percent blaming the president.

Obamacare is already providing tangible benefits to millions of Americans, and when the marketplaces take effect in October, they will provide access to affordable care for millions more. This is a policy that was passed by Congress, signed by the president and upheld by the Supreme Court. It is the law, and no reckless ideological stunts are going to change that.
