"Just talking with my colleagues, trying to figure out how to make a bill work"

A small group of Senate and House Republicans met Monday night to discuss how to pass an immigration overhaul through Congress.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who has been hungry to rewrite the nation’s immigration laws this Congress, was planning on going to the session. Most top members of Republican leadership in the House and Senate were not planning on attending the confab, according to sources.

“Just talking with my colleagues, trying to figure out how to make a bill work,” Ryan told POLITICO, when asked about the meeting. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is involved in the planning, according to two sources.
