Poll: Not even half of Americans say they are closely following Benghazi investigation

Only 44 percent of those surveyed between Thursday and Sunday by Pew Research say they are following the hearings very or fairly closely, despite a series of new revelations last week that cast new doubts on the Obama Administration’s handling of the attack. By contrast, 56 percent of those surveyed say they are not at all or not closely watching the latest developments.

By contrast, two-thirds of Americans said they were following the case closely in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, which left four Americans dead. But by January, when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before Congress, just 46 percent of Americans said they were closely monitoring the Benghazi developments. …

Unsurprisingly, seven in 10 Republicans say Obama has been dishonest while 62 percent of Democrats believe the White House has told the truth. Independents are more likely to believe the president had been dishonest by a 48-30 percent margin.
