Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a Judiciary Committee member, said that Obama’s goal of having Stevens’s seat filled by the time Congress adjourns for a monthlong August recess “means it cannot be a protracted, difficult process.”
“So taking somebody that can attract bipartisan support, I think, is of extraordinary value,” Feinstein said.
