Or in other words, the interview that dropped Sunday is just about everything else out there besides the truth.
John Harwood, who as a journalist never recovered from his debacle of a moderator job during a GOP debate in 2015, who was deemed so far to the left that even Chris Licht-led CNN bounced him a few years later, sat down with President Joe Biden. Keep in mind, as we’re talking about truth, Biden is a man who has not gotten through a public address in his entire presidency without repeating debunked personal fables, sometimes twice in the same address, without realizing he already told the story word for word.
The interview took place on ProPublica, which is still reeling from a debunked and very weak dark money-financed hit job at Supreme Court Justice Samuel Aito back in June. In short, Sunday night’s offering was an interview with a habitual and pathological liar conducted by a lying partisan Democrat, aired on a media outlet that is known for willfully publishing lies so long as it’s done for the partisan good of the left. Naturally, the interview is being heralded by lefty voices online as being a refreshing moment of clarity in today’s political rhetoric, and evidence that the President is just as sharp as ever. The truth? Propagandists all throughout history would be proud of this “interview”.
You can point back to Harwood’s disastrous turn at moderating the October, 2015 GOP debate as the groundswell for the Republican National Committee reclaiming much more of a say in who will or who will not moderate their debates. Harwood, seven years later in 2022, this time on CNN, tried his best to say it was false that Joe Biden didn’t have the mental chops to do the job. Sunday night was a continuance of that narrative on a platform that has come to be known for narrative or outcome-based journalism.
The overarching theme takeaway of the Biden-Harwood-ProPublica interview was that gosh darn it, that Elon Musk buying Twitter has ruined everything, and that no one in America knows what truth is anymore.
I guess the only Twitter truth at the time was Jack Dorsey shadowbanning truth, or maybe suspending accounts they don’t like truth. But Elon Musk Twitter, or now X, is a travesty to truth, or something.
The truth apparently doesn’t include disclosure, for truth’s sake, that ProPublica is being given legitimacy by the president of the United States as a purported serious outlet, after lying and smearing a sitting Supreme Court justice in a piece that was full of holes, errors and innuendo, and was laughed off the headlines for its shoddy journalism.
Harwood, again on CNN in early 2022, maintained that there was no evidence of Joe Biden engaging in his son, Hunter’s business dealing, or that there was any wrongdoing of any kind. We now know that there were wire transfers in the hundreds of thousands of dollars payable to Hunter Biden, care of Joe’s Delaware residence, at a time when Hunter was living in California. We also now know that his granddaughter, Naomi, Hunter’s daughter, was living at the White House while literally on the payroll as a representative of the Peruvian government. It’s three generations of grift we’re talking about here. Harwood sees no evidence, a common vision problem among Democrats when looking at fellow Democrats.
As for the truth interview, though, here’s a little nugget of opportunity for John Harwood to be that harbinger of truth, always willing and able to bring the truth hammer out whenever necessary.
John Harwood listened to that and probably was thinking in his head, “I’ll get the Pulitzer for this”. In reality, Strom Thurmond died in 2003. Joe Biden didn’t leave the Senate until 6 years later, in 2009. So Joe couldn’t have gotten Thurmond to vote for the Civil Rights Act in 2009, unless he brought in Madame Leota and conducted a séance. As for the Civil Rights Act, well, that passed in 1964. Strom Thurmond voted against it. Joe Biden was then a junior at a not-Historically Black College and/or University school not playing football for the second straight year, building his resume of almost being an all-American, and racking up a scholastic career of mediocrity. He didn’t run for the Senate until 8 more years after the Civil Rights Act, and had no interaction with Strom Thurmond on the Civil Rights bill, or any other matter, until 1973 at the very earliest.
Now John Harwood could have stopped Biden there and questioned the President on his veracity, in the name of truth. It’s not like Biden hasn’t told that lie before. He has. It’s been ridiculed and debunked several times. Unless Harwood is a willful propagandist, he has to know Biden is lying to his face. He let it stand, because the truth is that Elon Musk is the real threat to truth. We go from micro lie to macro now.
73% of the country thinks we’re on the wrong track. Three out of four. That just inherently makes what Biden said preposterous. Only a propagandist for the left would let that stand. Gallup polled Biden’s approval in nine key issue sets – Ukraine, race relations, education, labor disputes, foreign affairs, relations with Russia, economy, relations with China, immigration. All nine, the President is underwater. More people disapprove than approve. That, just objectively, is not Joe Biden policies being overwhelmingly popular. This doesn’t include the student loan forgiveness plan, which isn’t popular with anyone except those getting their loans forgiven. Nobody thinks his energy proposals are too popular when they fill up their tank or pay their gas and electric bills. The country is just not into Joe Biden. Does Harwood push back? Nope.
This is the same kind of nonsense I saw on display with one act at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point over the weekend. Lots of acts, mostly good ones. I’m especially enamored with Charley Crockett, Lucius, The War On Drugs, and my new favorite, Goose. If you get the opportunity, go see Goose. You won’t be disappointed. The main undercard for the concert was The “Don’t Call Me Dixie” Chicks. From a musicianship point of view, a very talented and fun group. The in your face political attacks on Republicans woven through the animation and song lyrics throughout their set? From a business standpoint, like Joe Biden, it doesn’t make a lick of sense. We are a divided country. It’s 50/50, or so I’m told. Lead singer Natalie Maines told us after introducing the band that they were here to entertain us, then proceeded to basically sing that she hates half her audience because of their political views.
She brought up this screed set to music about guns, and yet closed two songs later with the band’s most popular song, something about a Republican named Earl. I assume Earl must be a Republican, because according to Maines, he has to die for some reason. Write and sing your songs, make a joke or two if you must, all of that is fair play. But I don’t get the business model of telling half your potential audience to buzz off. It’s the same thing with the presidency. I don’t get the idea when you’re president to tell half the country that you’re the problem, and yet that seems to be the mission of Joe Biden these days, as told by John Harwood and ProPublica.
I’m not one out there to tell you objectively what is or what isn’t truth. But I feel pretty confident after watching this garbage offered up Sunday night in deciding that at least for myself, this is the trifecta of not truth.
