Team Rick Perry hasn’t troubled to conceal the fact that the Texas governor is leaving the door wide open for another potential presidential bid in 2016, and he’s been making the media rounds lately to both tout his state’s comparatively excellent economic performance throughout the recession as well as advertise an approachably laid-back and gregarious yet serious personality style. He raised the roof at CPAC, and put in a good showing on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night, temporarily shooting out of Austin for the SXSW conference/festival. After acknowledging some of the boos in the audience that greeted his introduction (Austin’s kinda’ like the blueberry in the tomato soup”), confirming the anecdote about the time he “dispatched” a coyote while jogging (“I do interviews with a gun, that’s the reason it’s called a concealed handgun”), and his movement toward marijuana legalization (“You don’t want to ruin a kid’s life for having a joint”), he dropped this open-ended quip: “America is a great place for second chances. Let’s just leave it at that.”
