Welcome to our VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.

What stories topped your priority lists this week? The top story may wind up being Elon Musk's flying Tesla. Both Duane and I marvel over it, and insist we never want to see it on our commutes. The biggest political news this week, however, is the sudden reappearance of James Talarico, who finally showed up on CNN after being off the campaign trail for nearly two weeks. Talarico managed to lose an argument on abortion with a Catholic professor at the town hall event, and then pledged to normalize illegal aliens in Texas and elsewhere. Talarico also proved himself every bit as radical as other Democrats on the war Hamas started.

Duane and I discuss his chances of success after this performance, and also Ken Paxton's decision to skip the event. Duane also covers some of the first data from early voting in Ohio and North Carolina, which had him rattled. Later in the episode, fresh data emerged that looks better for the GOP, and it may be that Democrats "shot their wad" in the first 24 hours of early voting in those and other states.

We also discuss the prospects of a "silver wave" and how that may not show up well in polling. Mark Tapscott wrote a lengthy analysis of enthusiasm measures by age demos, and seniors appear to be rarin' to vote in the midterms. That may be a measure of success for Republicans hoping to brand the midterms on the dangers of Marxism and sympathies for radical Islamists. That would explain the large polling misses in Democrat primaries and may indicate big misses in general-election polling as well.

Other topics today include:

  • The future of White House press secretary Katie Zacharia (which turned out to be short later in the day)
  • The school shooting in Bend, Oregon, and what put an end to it
  • Troy Jackson's evident misogyny in his debates with Susan Collins, and the oh-so-predictable way in which the Left has ignored it

Be sure to watch it all, and extend the conversation in the comments!
