LIVE PRIMARY RESULTS: Georgia on Our Minds ... and OK, AL, DC

Townhall Media

Welcome to yet another Election Day in the 2026 midterms! Today we have runoffs in Georgia and Alabama, primaries in Oklahoma, what amounts to a mayoral election in Washington DC, and a wrap-up of a special election in California. As always, we'll bring you live results from all these contests in partnership with our friends at Decision Desk HQ, except in California, where we'll bring you about half of the vote and wait three weeks for the rest.

Tonight we have Georgia on our mind, with polls closing at 7 pm ET in a full slate of runoffs for the primaries. The big question for Republicans in the Peach State had been the Senate nomination and the choice of challenger to incumbent Jon Ossoff. Ossoff won in the wake of the bitter 2020 election when Donald Trump fought bitterly with Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensberger over his challenges to the presidential results. This time, everyone appears to be maintaining an even strain, but Trump and Kemp are split,, with Trump endorsing House Republican Mike Collins over former football coach Derek Dooley, recruited by Kemp. Collins outpolled Dooley in the first round, and DDHQ expects Trump's late endorsement to carry Collins to a relatively easy win:

Collins led Dooley about 40%-30% in the May 19 primary vote, and his edge seems more likely than not to hold up in the runoff. An average of four runoff polls conducted since late May found Collins leading Dooley by 11 percentage points, 52%-41%. However, the last poll from InsiderAdvantage showed a much closer race, so a Dooley surprise can’t be ruled out.

Kemp's backing hasn't translated into a fundraising bonanza for Dooley, either:

Another sign that Dooley is an underdog is the lack of outside backing he has received from Kemp’s network in the runoff. The Kemp-affiliated Hardworking Americans Inc. spent $4.0 million in the primary to help Dooley advance to the runoff, but has spent just $175,000 since. Another group, Georgia Values, has spent $845,000 against Collins. If Dooley comes up just short, the decrease in outside support will loom large.

Trump and Kemp are better aligned in the gubernatorial runoff. Both have endorsed Burt Jones, the current Lt. Governor, over self-funding billionaire Rick Jackson. However, the polls are closer in this race, and Jackson might pull off an upset. After spending $90 million, Jackson probably expects to win. Democrats will run former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and regardless of who prevails in the runoff tonight, the general election will be close ... and very expensive.

In Alabama, the GOP has a runoff to determine the nominee for the US Senate seat being vacated by Tommy Tuberville, who's running for governor. Rep. Barry Moore and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson survived the first round, and polls show mixed results. Moore has raised a larger amount of funds, but the runoff has been marred by allegations of "stolen valor" by the House Republican. The GOP has to hope for a quiet and clear win by one or the other; as long as neither takes too much damage, Republicans should hold this Senate seat.

Oklahoma holds its normal primaries today, but the two big races will likely require runoffs, according to DDHQ. The gubernatorial primary is a five-way race led by Trump-endorsed state budget secretary Mike Mazzei, who has hired Roger Stone's group as consultants. He's kicked in $10 million of his own money, but he's not expected to clear the 50%-plus-one threshold tonight. The race for OK-01's Republican nomination is also crowded. Incumbent Kevin Hern looks to cruise to victory in the Senate primary, but the race to replace him is likely too crowded to settle here. Trump has endorsed Jackson Lakhmeyer, founder of the Pastors for Trump group, who also has the endorsement of the Club For Growth. He's trailing Rep, Mark Tedford badly in donations, but if it comes down to those two in a runoff, expect a lot of MAGA money to materialize in this district.

The only potential fun for Blue Watch will be in DC, where Mayor Muriel Bowser will not seek another term. It's a seven-person race, but DDHQ believes it will come down to a runoff between DSA candidate Janeese Lewis George and relatively moderate Democrat Kenyan McDuffie, a former city council member. This week, Trump warned that a DSA win would prompt him to push Congress to end "home rule" and take direct control over the federal district. Don't expect a result tonight here, as DC has adopted ranked-choice voting, which means the result will only appear in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar on Fun & Wagnall's doorstep.

Oh, and there's that special-election House runoff in California, but that has to go through Greasy Gavin's Soap & Rinse for a couple of weeks. Don't stay awake on that race.

Poll closings:

  • Georgia: 7 pm ET
  • Alabama: 8 pm ET
  • Oklahoma: 8 pm ET
  • California: July 7

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
