Week in Review: SCOTarama, Biden drama, and the invention of ... sailboats?

Townhall Media

What stories topped your priority lists this week? Both Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson and I agree that the top story this week — as of about 8 am CT — was the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action. Who was the biggest winner in SFFA v Harvard, besides the rule of law and equality? You’ll be surprised who I pick. We also previewed today’s cases, and both of us saw where Neil Gorsuch would go in 303 Creative. Not for the first time do we wonder where Joe Biden thought he was going, but we also wonder where Merrick Garland and David Weiss might be going too, as in House hearings to testify under oath. Francis Suarez found out this week that Weebles wobble but China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs. And CNN breaks a hot story this morning about a new invention called a … [checks notes] … “sailboat.”

Welcome to our VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.

Highlights from today’s show include:

  • “You see how the left is is reacting to this” SCOTUS decision, Duane says. “There’s really, honestly, no legitimate grounds of an argument to make.”
  • Why was Joe Biden in such a rush to get off the MSNBC set yesterday? Duane has a theory.
  • How will the ruling on affirmative action affect the 2024 presidential race? “The Democrats are going to use affirmative action in 2024,” I argue, “just the way that they did with abortion last year. They’re going to say we need to have control of the Supreme Court, because otherwise you’re going to have these things where they’re hurting black and brown people. … We need a liberal in the White House or progressive in the White House, and we need Democrats and control of Congress,” I predict that they’ll argue. And if for some reason Joe Biden can’t run next year, that leaves them with only one option. Guess who.
  • Duane gives us the backstory on Francis Suarez’ epic faceplant on the Uyghurs. Suarez later tried to claim that Hugh mispronounced the word, which is … lame.
  • “Oigers??”
  • The Bidens and the DoJ are in real trouble over the IRS whistleblowers and Hunter’s sweetheart plea deal, Duane says, and the sudden interest by the MSM is a big red flag for Democrats. “Did you see the Jim Axelrod report on CBS Early Show? They spent four and a half minutes, and they did a credible reportage, including interviewing of Shapley, the IRS whistle blower, who just is just oozing credibility.”
  • It’s only going to get worse for them, I predict. “James Comer is demanding now that Treasury release all of the suspicious activity reports relating to all of the Bidens now.”
  • Was Joe Biden listening to Steely Dan when he proposed the Trans-Pacific Railroad?

We discuss more issues around the 2024 cycle, plus marvel at the new invention that’s coming for cargo transport over the ocean. Well, coming for us, anyway — not so much for China. Watch it all and join the conversation in the comments!
