Week in Review: Hookers, bookers, and crookers, oh my!

Townhall Media

What stories topped your priority lists this week? For both Duane and me, two stories hit the top mark this week, and the sexiest — so to speak — was the story told by IRS whistleblowers about Biden Inc and Department of Justice obstruction. How bad is this scandal? “NBC News actually led their national news coverage with a 1 min story on this,” I point out to Duane. “Lester Holt actually covered the story. That’s how bad this is.” Duane and I attempt to refrain from bad jokes about Hunter Biden’s hookers and sex-club deductions (I largely fail), but we also discuss Donald Trump’s inexplicable interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier. Plus, what counts as a “summer song”? All this and more in today’s show!

Welcome to our VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.

More highlights:

  • Hunter Biden “got routed into a diversion program for a felony firearms charge, which never happens to anybody else,” I point out. “Per the DoJ’s own website,” Duane replies, “you’re ineligible if [you’re] brandishing a firearm, which is exactly what he did and got away with.”
  • The Biden White House pledged to “let David Weiss handle this,” I point out. The whistleblowers told the House Ways and Means Committee that Weiss got overruled by Biden’s US Attorney appointee Matthew Graves. “Graves covered this prosecution,” Duane says, “the way David Burge says Mainstream Media covers anything [involving] Democrats — cover it with a pillow until it quits moving.”
  • “I mean,” Duane says, “not even Bob Menendez claimed the underage hookers as a tax write off.”
  • “Apparently, Hunter Biden claimed that a sex club in Los Angeles was a golf club,” I say, “in order to take the membership feee as a business tax deduction.” That leads to some jokes about, well …
  • We both recall how Joe “The Big Guy” Biden felt about “wealthy tax cheats” in his State of the Union speech. What happened?
  • I scoff at late entries in 2024 and at the claim from Larry Hogan that Ron DeSantis’ campaign has collapsed because he’s still in second place in national polling. “Voters aren’t even going to start making firm decisions until maybe Thanksgiving, right? At this point,” I add, “all they’re doing is just affiliating with names and prior loyalties. Trump was a national figure, De Santis was a state figure. It doesn’t surprise me that Trump’s got a bigger base than Ron De Santis does. I think that it’s soft, but we’ll find out.”
  • Both of us wonder what Trump was thinking with his “sometimes you gotta be nasty” video yesterday. I call it a case of projection, while Duane is mystified as to what this says as a campaign message.
  • Did Trump pull a Colonel Jessup earlier this week? We get into a lengthy conversation about that, plus Trump’s shrinking choices of defenses in court.

There’s plenty more in the conversation, including what counts as a “summer song.” Don’t miss it!
