What unites us as Americans, and what threatens to divide us? Presciently or not, my friend Adam Baldwin and I tackle patriotism and the rule of law in today’s episode. The news of the indictment of Donald Trump doesn’t come up in this episode, as it dropped several hours after our recording, but it makes the topic even more acute. We are discarding our American birthright through identitarian “justice,” we argue, and eliminating the very basis of the American identity that should unite us.

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
Adam and I have a wide-ranging discussion about the erosion of true small-R republican spirit in America, especially in an aspirational sense. Cultural Marxists have replaced equality with “equity,” and that has top-down tyrannical applications, as it always does in socialism.
Highlights include:
- The interruption of a children’s choir singing the National Anthem in the Rotunda kicked off the discussion. “It was a beautiful rendition right up until the time that they prematurely stopped it,” I say. “I’m curious … a children’s choir singing the national anthem in the rotunda is a form of protest? Adam, when, when did we get to that point?”
- “Well, what I want to know is,” Adam quips in reply, “have these kids been locked away with the J Six offenders?”
- “I think that this talks about a real fracturing of values. And a real loss of American identity.”
Rather than transcribe more of this conversation, I’d encourage you to watch it unfold. There’s much more to our episode, and be sure to join us in the comments section.
