Bowdlerizing Dahl, endless revival, and ... Trump v Zito? Off the Beaten Path!

What can we learn from the West Asbury revival, which has gone on for 11 days and counting without a break? Larry O’Connor notes that not everyone’s entirely positive about it. “This went viral, Ed, because TikTok, Instagram and Twitter were used to get the word out, and now people are coming from all around the world to line up outside the chapel to be a part of it.” The virality has prompted skepticism — but nothing like the skepticism and scorn that Donald Trump heaped on the New York Post, Fox News, and even Salena Zito, perhaps the one reporter who actually got the rise of conservo-populists right. Huh?

Welcome back to our new VIP video series “Off the Beaten Path,” featuring my friend Larry O’Connor! The Townhall columnist and Salem News Channel host starts off our week by discussing stories and ideas that may fly under our radar, in culture, politics, sports, and more. Plus, Larry previews tonight’s SNC show!

We also tackle the woke Bowdlerization of Roald Dahl, one of the more bizarre literary movements in memory. “One of the changes,” Larry said, “is that Augustus Gloop is no longer referred to as ‘fat’. He’s described as ‘enormous,’ which by the way I don’t think is better.” Larry then provides us with some hilarious dramatic readings of the changes in Dahl’s work, and then notes just how broad the outrage at these changes are. “The one positive thing about this,” Larry posits, “is the answer to this trivia question: what can the National Review, Jim Acosta, and the Washington Post all agree on? And most conservatives like you and me? That this is an abomination,” he concludes.

Be sure to watch the show and enjoy all of the fun tangents we take — and join the conversation in the comments!
