The Democratic National Convention begins tomorrow in Philadelphia, and Jazz Shaw and Guy Benson will be on hand to report on it. Before that starts, though, let’s take another look back at the GOP’s quadrennial shindig in Cleveland, with some photographs I took while in the arena. I put them together as a slideshow video:
For those interested in seeing the photos separately, check out the album on our Hot Air Facebook page. The resolution is much better there, although they turned out all right in the video as well. For the record, most of the shots (except the wide shots of the entire hall) were taken with a Tamron SP 150-600mm telephoto lens. I didn’t use a monopod or tripod with it, but it’s about at the extreme end of how much weight one can handle while taking pictures without generating blur. If I wasn’t using a full-frame Canon 6D with its ability to take high-quality pictures at higher ISO levels, though, it would have been impossible with the shutter speeds necessary.
While we’re at the Hot Air Facebook page, we have a few Facebook Live videos that never made it into Hot Air posts. My interview with RNC committeewoman Janet Beihoffer of Minnesota discussed the controversial challenges to rules and the platform, with a somewhat different perspective than what much of the media was reporting at the time:
My good friend Joel Pollak stopped by to talk about his new book, See No Evil: 19 Hard Truths the Left Can’t Handle. It arrives on Tuesday, July 25th, and will be available in hardcover, e-book, Audible, or CD formats. Joel and I also briefly discuss the goings-on at the convention”
And finally, here are four of us from Townhall Media Group’s coverage team giving analysis on Day 2 of the convention: RedState’s Leon Wolf, Townhall’s Katie Pavlich and Guy Benson, and me. It’s worth nothing that the cover band directly behind us registered at 93 decibels; we could barely hear each other, and that’s even with the earpieces that the Facebook team had us use in their studio.
We had a great time covering the convention, and we know Jazz and Guy will do a great job in keeping us informed this week about the Democrats. Stay tuned!
