Hillary Clinton has a bone to pick with critics, so fetch your slippers and sit up — up! up! up! — and listen. The beleaguered Democratic coronation candidate offers her rendition of Who Let The Dogs Out in an attempt to dig up a bone in South Carolina. This apparently has something to do with fact checking critics, but, er … that dog won’t hunt, especially for Hillary:

Frankly, this seems particularly rich from the woman whose claims about her secret and unauthorized home-brew e-mail system keep collapsing. No classified material was sent or received through it. Woof! I never handled classified material in e-mail. Woof! Everyone else did it too. Woof! Woof woof woof woof woof!

Speaking before a crowd in Reno, Clinton described how she would like to fact-check various Republican claims. He began her story with a recollection of a political ad that aired on the radio in Arkansas. The ad featured a dog that the announcer claimed would bark any time a candidate said an untrue statement.

“We need to get that dog and follow him around and every time they say these things, like, ‘oh the Great Recession was caused by too much regulation,” Clinton said before yelping, “Arf! Arf! Arf! Arf!” to general applause.

In the age of YouTube, Vine, and GIFs, this kind of choice is so inexcusable that it had to have come from the candidate herself. Barack Obama might have made a joke about barking dogs, but he knew better than to offer up an impersonation of them on stage. Even Bernie Sanders would know better than this, although his speech style makes him sound closer to a barking dog than Hillary … most of the time, anyway.

I long for the days when presidential candidates carried themselves with a modicum of dignity. You know, the days when they did the Whip and the Nae Nae on television rather than barked like dogs in the middle of their speeches. Perhaps someone can put a leash on these candidates soon.
