Video: Will this ad be Democratic Kryptonite in 2014?

It’s rare that one single ad in a state-wide contest gets this kind of attention — especially this far out from an election.  Of course, it’s rare to see an entire political party adopt the same blatant lie to sell an unpopular program, with total unanimity, and have it blow up in their faces so completely.  Every Democratic incumbent on Capitol Hill who was in office in March 2010, or defended ObamaCare since, probably has repeated Politifact’s Lie of the Year at least once or twice on camera. Ending Spending makes sure that New Hampshire voters know Jeanne Shaheen participated in that lie, and she’s just the first (via NewsAlert):

Chris Cillizza wrote yesterday that every Democratic incumbent should be scared of this ad showing up in their race:

The Ending Spending ad can be replicated in virtually every single state where an endangered Democratic Senator (or House member) is running.  Find footage of said member praising Obamacare, followed by noting the “lie of the year” award and then follow it up with how many people in the state/district had their policies canceled because of the ACA.

The potential ubiquity of the ad is matched by its potential power. Remember that more than six in ten registered voters in the latest Washington Post-ABC News polldisapprove of President Obama’s handling of health care — including an eye-popping 50 percent who disapprove strongly. (Eighty-eight percent of Republicans and 70 percent of independents disapprove of Obama handling of the health care law.) And,nearly half (47 percent) of voters said that Obamacare is making the health care system worse while just 19 percent said the ACA had made things better.

Add it all up and you have a very scary situation for Shaheen — and any other Democrat, which is almost all of them, on the record supporting the ACA.  Get used to this ad. You are going to see it thousands of times — in various forms — before 2014 is over.

If the GOP and its allies have any intelligence at all, this ad had better make an appearance in those races. In fact, it should make appearances against non-incumbent Democrats, too, just to remind voters that the alternative will be to send more rubber-stamp officials for Barack Obama. In 2013, “you can keep your plan” is the (belated) Lie of the Year. It will be the Argument of the Year in 2014.

The message is clear for Democrats:
