Obamateurism of the Day

Hey, don’t tell Barack Obama that he doesn’t know Jack. He knows Jack. Unfortunately, Maryland Governor O’Malley’s first name isn’t Jack:

President Obama, addressing the National Governor’s Association, couldn’t find Jack O’Malley in the audience at today’s event.

Trying to highlight a successful program in Maryland, Obama asked the crowd if “Jack O’Malley” was around.

Jack O’Malley is a former Chicago prosecutor and a lecturer at the University of Chicago, where Obama also lectured. Martin O’Malley, on the other hand, is the current governor of Maryland, the chair of the Democratic Governor’s Association and occasionally mentioned as a possible 2016 presidential contender.

Isn’t that the kind of detail that event speakers try to get straight before going on stage?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
