Obamateurism of the Day

This is a rare OOTD that has a perfect analog with Barack Obama’s predecessor. George Bush got years of ridicule for referring to “the Internets” during the 2000 and 2004 elections. Will Obama get the same grief for his use of the term yesterday?

“We do have to make sure that there are computers in a computer age inside classrooms and that they work and that there’s internets that are actually — there are Internet connections that actually function. And I think that those states that are going to do well and those countries that do well are the ones that are going to continue to be committed to making education a priority.”

There is one difference between this and Bush’s widely-ridiculed usage (which prompted its own Saturday Night Live sketch in 2004). Obama specifically wanted to conduct his townhall on the Twitters in order to impress younger voters with how hip he is. So will SNL do a skit about how that backfired on Obama? Color me … doubtful.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
