My friend Ed Frank turned into Johnny-on-the-spot when a woman attempted to hit Michele Bachmann with glitter as she left the stage at Right Online after delivering a showstopping speech yesterday. Not only did Ed catch the attack on video (and added a little chyron commentary along with it), he managed to catch up with the protester outside of the Minneapolis Hilton, where the conference was held. Needless to say, the brief interview matches the intellectual level that one would expect of glitter-bombers at political events. Watch the deep philosophical stylings of one Rachel Lang:

I tried Googling “Rachel Lang” but didn’t come up with much beyond a reference to the fictional rage-filled telekenitic character from Carrie 2. This Rachel Lang seems a lot more goofy than angry, and certainly more entertaining than her fictional counterpart.

ABC reported on the swing and a miss from Lang:

After the brief glitter shower, the protester was swiftly removed by security.

“You can run, but you can’t hide,” the protester yelled as she was hauled off.

Meanwhile, Bachmann proceeded to work the ropeline, seemingly unfazed by the incident.

She was “unfazed” because Lang has an aim worse than her My Little Pony philosophy.  None of the glitter ever touched her, according to people at the scene, and it’s uncertain whether Bachmann even noticed Lang.  But that wasn’t the lamest attack on Bachmann this weekend — for that, we go to CBS and the Daily Beast, which questioned Bachmann’s claim to have “raised” 23 foster children:

Writing in the Daily Beast this week, Michelle Goldberg quoted Kris Harvieux, who worked as a senior social worker in the foster care system in Bachmann’s county, who said at least some of Bachmann’s placements were likely short term.

“Some of them you have for a week. Some of them you have for three years, some you have for six months,” he said. “She makes it sound like she got them at birth and raised them to adulthood, but that’s not true.”

According to Goldberg, the Minnesota Department of Human Services reports that Bachmann’s foster care license allowed her to care for at most three children at any one time; she had the license for 7 1/2 years.

News flash — foster children don’t stay at one home forever!  Actually, as Bachmann states, she took most of them as teen-agers and tried to get them through high school.  Did the Bachmanns succeed in every single case?  Probably not, but that’s not what she claims, and that isn’t the point.  The point is that the Bachmanns opened up their home to 23 children not their own in order to give them a chance at a semblance of a normal life.  I’m not sure how many foster children Michelle Goldberg has welcomed into her house, but it’s probably less than 23.

Maybe Glitter Lady is a good metaphor for the Bachmann campaign.  The Left keeps trying to hit her with silliness in order to derail her candidacy and give themselves a little flash of attention, but they keep missing the target. Don’t expect them to stop throwing mud — or glitter — any time soon.
