Obamateurism of the Day

No wonder Barack Obama felt comfortable leaving the country after deciding to start a war in Libya. The Commander in Chief explained while in El Salvador that America’s volunteer military forces got, er, volunteered by “others” to go to war (via Ed Driscoll and PJM’s Tatler, emphasis Ed’s):

And that’s why building this international coalition has been so important because it means that the United States is not bearing all the cost.  It means that we have confidence that we are not going in alone, and it is our military that is being volunteered by others to carry out missions that are important not only to us, but are important internationally.  And we will accomplish that in a relatively short period of time.

“Volunteered by others”?  I’m not aware of a Constitutional clause that allows our orders to get “volunteered” for conflicts by any entity other than Congress or the President.  Perhaps we could get a Constitutional scholar to weigh in on this … you know, one actually in the country.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
