Obamateurism of the Day

Remember when Barack Obama insisted that “the time for talk is over” on ObamaCare? Well, actually, readers can recall any number of times Obama spoke about how “the time for talk is over”; we called it the “Shut Up, He Explained” tour. After the House finally managed to pass the Senate version of ObamaCare last Sunday and Obama signed it into law, the one thing in which we all could take comfort was that the time for talking about ObamaCare really was over.

Or so we thought:

President Obama will take to road this week to sell his healthcare insurance overhaul package to the American people, whom polls show remain dubious about the package.

Obama is scheduled to travel to Iowa City, Iowa, on Thursday, the White House announced. By then, it is expected that he will have signed the healthcare overhaul legislation that the House passed on Sunday.

HA reader Peter M calls this a “basic Sales 101 error … selling past the close.” Maybe Obama has nothing left to talk about?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
