Call it a little ground-plowing ahead of tonight’s debate. John McCain wants to shake trust in Obama, which CNN helped do last night on AC360 in an unexpected assist. In “Hypo”, McCain calls Obama a hypocrite for his New Politics posing while issuing attack ads:
ANNCR: Who is Barack Obama?
KMOV TV ANCHOR (VIDEO): Obama’s presidential campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad.
ANNCR: How hypocritical. Obama’s Social Security attack was called “a falsehood.” His health care attack … “misleading”. Obama’s stem cell attack … “not true”.
Barack Obama. He promised better. He lied.
This ad takes too broad a target, and ends up looking a little weak. It takes a potentially blockbuster topic — the Obama Truth Squad fiasco — and turns it into a “politcians lie” accusation. That’s not exactly breaking news, and some of the same sources this ad quotes have also accused McCain of the same thing.
McCain needs to do a 30-second spot on the Truth Squad in Missouri. That was a lot more significant than just pointing out that Obama lies about McCain’s record. Obama and his allies attempted to use law enforcement to intimidate critics of Barack Obama into silence. Put that in a 30-second spot, and it will get attention from the national media, and put Obama on the defensive.
