A week after the assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the attempted assassination of a Minnesota State Senator and his wife, a Minnesota lobbyist for the radical Interfaculty Organization, which represents leftist faculty, has been arrested for sending a threatening text.

What the hell is going on in Tim Walz’s state?!

Bohn lobbies for the Inter Faculty Organization, which represents extreme left-wing faculty on Minnesota State University campuses.
The IFO takes great pride in being a grassroots led organization. The Board of Directors is comprised of faculty elected by their campuses and includes a diverse group of leaders representing each of the seven state universities. The Board is responsible for establishing the policies and operating procedures of the organization, directing negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement, and developing the budget and priorities of the organization.
The Board is comprised of representatives from each of the seven campuses proportionally
Bemidji State University—FA President + 2 representatives;
Metropolitan State University—FA President + 2 representatives;
MSU-Mankato—FA President + 3 representatives;
MSU-Moorhead—FA President + 2 representatives;
St. Cloud State University—FA President + 3 representatives;
Southwest MN State University—FA President + 1 representative;
Winona State University—FA President + 2 representatives.
We're not talking about an AAUP-type organization--a more mainstream liberal-left group--but campus radicals who embrace the raised fist symbolism to make their point.
It's not clear what exactly Bohn said in his text, but it was enough to scare the bejeezus out of someone and to get Bohn arrested.
A lobbyist is in custody after a constituent of state Rep. Jim Nash (R-Waconia) received a “threat of violence” toward the State Capitol on Wednesday.
Jonathan Michael Bohn, 41, of Woodbury, was arrested Wednesday evening and booked into Carver County Jail on suspicion of threats of violence.
State representative Nash told law enforcement that one of his constituents got a text message on their personal phone that was “threatening in nature” on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for House Republicans says the threat was not aimed at any specific lawmaker.
As of Thursday night, Bohn is listed as the public affairs director of the Inter Faculty Organization, where it states, in part, about his work at the Capitol, “In the halls of the Capitol, Jonathan is regarded as a well-connected advocate who has worked on a variety of issues leading to legislative victories.”
Minnesota campaign finance board records show Bohn has made multiple donations to DFL campaigns.
The Minnesota DFL sent the following statement on Thursday: “Violent threats have no place in our politics and we condemn them unequivocally, no matter who makes them or whom they’re directed toward.”
Yikes.
While this attack has clear connections to a political party--Bohn was active in Democratic politics--the assassination of Hortman is still a bit of a mystery. The early reports of connections to Governors Mark Dayton and Tim Walz made it seem like Vance Boelter was an active Democrat, but those reports were overblown. Boelter served on nonpartisan boards that are largely inconsequential, may never have met with either governor, and the evidence suggests that he was a guy who wanted to be a big man on campus, but wasn't.
In Minnesota, if you serve on a board like this, you are appointed by a Democrat these days. That's just reality, and it means little. It's a resume builder, and little more. It's not even a political perk.
In practical terms, Bohn's affiliation with the university community matters more to me than his contributions to Democrats. Not all Democrats are radicals, but radicalism is a fact of life on university campuses, and the embrace of political violence is now common. Globalize the Intifada, decolonization, use of intimidation, riots, and occupations are all seen as normal.
Maybe Bohn saw this as an effective lobbying technique. It seems to work on campuses.
As much as it would be satisfying to hang Bohn around the Democrats' neck, I see this as more reflective of our faculty than of Democrats. Finding a Democrat donor in Minnesota is more common than finding Walleyes in our lakes. Drop a line into the water and you will catch one without trying too hard.
