I am not a fan of calling every act of political opposition to government policies an "insurrection." The word is overused, largely because the Democrats found the term useful in their fight against Donald Trump. In turn, Republicans have taken to using the term frequently as an implicit rebuttal--if a term gets overused it loses its power, you racist Nazi.
Here’s a Craigs List opportunity, paying people money to riot!!

This is sickening these people they want to kill American people riot and destroy the cities pic.twitter.com/Gh6lQjcAJc
But one could argue that the riots in Los Angeles, because they are well-planned and executed violent resistance to federal authority, backed by a political coalition bent on stripping power from the federal government, actually are intended to be an insurrection. The Democratic Party has activated its Brownshirts to exercise a "heckler's veto" (in this case a "rioter's veto") to assert control over the legitimate powers of the federal government carrying out its lawful duties.
“The raids must stop. Now.” This is the rhetoric of insurrection. She’s saying: no peace until federal law enforcement withdraws from the city. No peace until all the illegal invaders are allowed to remain. https://t.co/g3ePeFQvYg

The position the Democrats and the left have taken is simple: unless the president follows their policies, they will deploy irregular troops to destroy things and harm people. Blue cities and states are adopting the logic of the Confederacy--they are not subject to federal laws backed by legitimate Constitutional powers being executed by duly elected representatives of the people.

Neither the laws nor the policies being employed are arbitrary--Congress passed the laws, and the president is faithfully executing them--it's just that the Democrats and the left don't like them, so they are resorting to violence.
At the bottom of the riots in California is that city and state officials there want to have their own immigration law. And they can't have their own immigration law. Wasn't that settled by the Arizona case in the Obama years? Arizona said to Obama: You're not enforcing…
— Byron York (@ByronYork) June 10, 2025
That's not how things work in our country, or for that matter, any other. As Byron York pointed out, Arizona challenged the Obama administration on its non-enforcement of federal laws by trying to enforce them within its borders, and the Obama administration sued, winning its case at the Supreme Court. Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and the federal government sets the rules of enforcement.
Enforcing the law is now "manufacturing a crisis."

You don't hate the Democratic Party enough. https://t.co/Do31XzqlBJ
What was high principle when Democrats were in power is now Nazi-like authoritarianism that demands armed resistance. This is extortion--basically saying that Democrats and their leftist allies are the real power in America, not the elected government. While there is no CHAZ/CHOP in every Blue city--places that actually declare themselves in rebellion against the government--all these Democrats are essentially declaring any locality where they can muster the ground troops is independent of federal law.

🇺🇸 WHITE HOUSE ON LA RIOTS: “THIS ISN’T SPEECH... IT’S INSURRECTION”
— Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) June 11, 2025
Looting Adidas stores isn’t protest. Burning cities isn’t free expression.
And @GavinNewsom? “Not a good governor.”
That’s the White House, not a pundit, firing shots 23 minutes ago.

To the extent that they justify this, they use the abuser's logic: "Look what you made me do!" If only the president let them have their way in everything, all the time, then there would be no trouble.

For all the talk about Trump's authoritarianism, the reality on the ground is that Trump is exercising the legitimate power invested in him and pursuing the policies he was elected to pursue. It's not even like immigration enforcement was a peripheral issue in the election: Americans argued it out, had an election, and chose to deport illegal aliens.

Democrats don't like it, so they choose violent resistance. None of these riots is "spontaneous," where people lose control and become a mob. These are soldiers using guerrilla tactics to undermine state power. The riots are coordinated, planned, use relatively long logistics chains, are backed by big money and political connections, and are a clear strategy to achieve a clear goal of undermining the federal government's power.
That, my friends, is an insurrection.
