Tomorrow's Elections a Test of MAGA

Is the MAGA coalition about saving America from what appears to be an inevitable surrender to the vision of the totalitarian elite, or simply a populist movement focused solely on rallying around Donald Trump as a symbol of their disapproval of that elite?

Either of these may be the case, and until we see the mobilization of MAGA devotees to the cause of electing conservatives in the mold of Trump and not just the man himself, we will be left wondering whether Trump is a one-off.

In the first post-Trump special election, the Democrats won in a deep red district, which was hardly encouraging. But a single election--especially one where Trump's supporters were distracted by the glow of victory after victory is not necessarily a harbinger of doom, but more a canary in the coal mine. It was a warning but didn't signal doom.

A number of elections will be held tomorrow, but the one that has the attention of the country is for the Wisconsin Supreme Court seat being vacated by a liberal justice. It is widely seen as one of the most important elections to take place not just tomorrow but, aside from the presidency last year, in a long time.

What used to be a sleepy kind of race has brought in uncounted millions of dollars in spending, far outspending recent gubernatorial races and mirroring the spending usually seen in competitive US Senate races.

That's because the fate of the Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives could be on the line. As is so often the case these days, even traditional legislative decisions have been usurped by the courts--nobody is more powerful in America than a judge--and the liberal Susan Crawford has indicated that if elected, she will reshuffle the House Districts to switch seats from Republican to Democrat, giving the Democrats two more House seats.

Crawford is running a traditional-style Democrat campaign. A "legal reform" advocate, she likes to hand out light sentences to predators and is all about social justice. In her version of social justice, the middle class is guilty of oppression and needs to be kept in line, while thugs are given free rein to roam the streets.

But Crawford is attacking her opponent, Brad Schimmel, as soft on crime. It is the typical Alinsky playbook--accuse your opponent of doing what you are doing.

The race is, according to the public polls, essentially tied. This means that this time, even more than usual, excitement and turnout will determine the outcome.

And we know the Democrat activists are motivated as hell. Are MAGA? Some people think so, but the proof will be in the actual returns.

So, I can't begin to guess the answer of who will pull it out. There are too many unknowns, and nobody is sharing their internal polls, should they exis,t as I assume they do.

I, along with a lot of interested parties, will be focused like a laser beam of the outcome of tomorrow's elections. They will be an important signal to tell us whether MAGA is simply a Trump phenomenon or a real movement. If it's only about Trump, then the next two years are all we have. Trump will never be on the ballot again.

So if you live in Wisconsin, make sure you vote!
