The Censors Are the BAD Guys, You Know

Twitter

After J.D. Vance's Churchillian speech in Munich, the entire transnational elite went into full meltdown mode.

HOW DARE J.D. Vance not embrace European censorship policies? And why won't we double our defense spending so European countries have more time and money to scold Americans for being too free?

As you no doubt have figured out, I have soured on Europe over the past few years after spending a lifetime supporting NATO. I was the ultimate Cold Warrior, believing that the transatlantic alliance was a bulwark against tyranny. I even supported the first round of expansions of NATO, despite the fact that the original purpose of NATO was to defend the West against a no-longer-existing Soviet Union.

NATO was GOOD. We were the good guys. More good guys is better than fewer, right?

Well, I am pretty much done with NATO. I'd be happy to restrict our alliances to countries that share our values and the Western European NATO countries (with minor exceptions) don't. They are budding totalitarian regimes that are modeling themselves on the old Eastern Germany, from which, not coincidentally, Angela Merkel came.

I love the Poles, the Hungarians, and the Italians as much as the next guy, but the French, the Germans, and the UK in their current forms can go straight to the Brave New World in which insulting politicians is prohibited and "misgendering" is a criminal offense.

CBS spent the day advocating for censorship, beginning with Margaret Brennan's ahistorical declaration that too much free speech led to the Holocaust, and ending the day with a paean to Germany's armed police raids on people who post the wrong memes on the internet.

The retreat of freedom in Europe is continuing apace, and it pains me no end. What made Europe great over the past few centuries has been disappearing at an accelerating rate, and the people who run these societies can't speed the process enough to make them happy.

In the UK a man burned the Koran, and was stabbed while doing so. Both men were arrested, but one released. Guess which one.

The censorious don't even pretend much to care about the principle of free vs hate speech. A hundred thousand Islamists can march through London or Berlin screaming "death to Israel" and calling for endless October 7ths and the police will protect them; one person posting on the Internet that Hamas is evil can go to jail.

Millions of people nod their heads sagely when Margaret Brennan links genocide to free speech, applaud European censors for saving us from hate, and act shocked as J.D. Vance says the most obviously true things in the world.

The only explanation I can think of is that they are brainwashed.

Europeans are in an uproar because they feel insulted by Vance, and our elites here are of course siding with the Europeans. They too believe that the hoi polloi have to stay in their place. We are to pay the taxes, build the weapons, provide the troops, and fund the regime changes that USAID bureaucrats push for, and if we get out of line we belong in real or virtual jail.

Look to Europe and you will see the future we have narrowly avoided by electing Trump. 6 a.m. armed raids for meme posting or insulting a politician.

And CBS thinks we are supposed to admire that.
