Culture War Makes For Strange Bedfellows

One of the more amusing results of the current culture war--and I wish there were more amusing aspects of it, but unfortunately, we are fighting for the soul of our country--is that groups that were once hostile to one another have become allies.

Not too long ago, you would have been surprised to learn that conservatives and gays, especially lesbians, have become political allies united in the fight against gender ideology.

There have always been more gays than you would imagine on the Red team--gay men in particular--but the hostility was real nonetheless. I have known a lot of gay Republicans who worked in politics over the years, and most Republicans' opposition to the gay agenda was focused on cultural changes, the sybaritic lifestyle celebrated by leftist gays, and especially gay marriage. The marriage issue, in particular, was a sticking point because religious conservatives wanted to preserve the special status as an institution whose core role was raising children.

The gay marriage issue is off the table both legally and culturally. And, frankly, conservatives lost that fight with no-fault divorce and not gay marriage. Once marriage became about personal satisfaction, it lost its core societal function over time.

Ironically, many gays and conservatives have found an issue they can easily unite behind, which is fighting gender ideology.

Gays were hoodwinked into embracing the idea that the LGB agenda fits nicely with the T, not quite getting that the T and the Q were more about undermining nature and the entire social order than gay acceptance. The whole point of "Queer" culture is rejecting Western culture, as transgenderism is about rejecting reality.

Gays have woken up to the reality that the alphabet crowd is trying to "trans the gay away," and lesbians, in particular, are horrified by the reality that transgender ideology is all about wiping the reality of womanhood off the maps. Women who are uncomfortable around men are now being forced to share their most intimate spaces with aggressive and mentally ill men.

Conservatives and gays can easily unite behind the cause of protecting young children, whether they are confused, gay, or simply want private spaces from the moral monsters who want to trans the kids and force men into women's sports, locker rooms, and showers.

Most Republicans don't care about an individual's sexual preference; what they care about is the sort of behavior that is celebrated at Pride parades and an erosion of the traditional values that undergird the family.

Queer and transgender culture is a far bigger threat to those values and to our children than two men or two women living together. It's easy to stand beside gays and lesbians and man the barricades against the T and the Q. Frankly, I am thrilled and surprised to see so many gays joining the fight despite the enormous social pressure to buckle to the vanguard of the degenerate.

As a late Boomer/early GenXer, I have never cared much about people's sexual preferences. I opposed gay marriage on religious grounds but never felt threatened by gay partnerships per se. I think that is true for most people under 60.

But alphabet ideology is a genuine threat to children, the family, and especially to women.

Thus my happiness over the strange bedfellows we have seen come together. As long as the relationship remains celibate, of course.
