Remember when Obama gave a thrill up Chris Matthews' leg?
He actually said that live on TV. It was disgusting vaguely sexual (he even said he had a "romance" with Obama), but it emphasized that the media wanted Americans to fall in love with the man.
WE are getting exactly the same treatment of Kamala now, believe it or not.
Kamala is Obama 2.0, at least, that is the pitch some are trying to make. It's absurd, but they are going there.

"I fell in love with her"
"A twinkle in her eyes"
"Jumping out of my seat"

David Brooks even commented on Obama's sartorial splendor, creating an image of the president-to-be as "articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."
With Kamala we are getting a different sartorial pitch, but one nonetheless. This time it is about taking the least relatable person in politics and bringing her down to Earth.
The Howard sweatshirt is an important detail here.

For Harris, this is about where she came from as much as what lies ahead. Howard is the first place she looks for when Air Force Two lands in Washington. https://t.co/wkcluZX2PS
What about playing the racism card? It's already begun, of course, And this time, they can also toss in sexism. Suddenly, any criticism of the Democrat candidate for president is racist and sexist, which plays right into the identity politics that Obama used as one of the important tools in his political toolbox.

Will the mainstream media and the Democrats succeed in turning Kamala into Obama 2.0?
I doubt it, partly because Obama 1.0 doesn't seem impressed with her at all, and partly because Obama has enormous natural talent as a politician (not as a president, but as a politician, he is amazing) that Kamala doesn't have in the least.
It’s like Obama all over again, but Kamala this time. FFS. pic.twitter.com/bwTYxwvZmJ

Ironically, Kamala does reasonably well behind a teleprompter--making her more like Biden than Obama--and falls apart when she can't use it as a crutch. She is deeply weird, utterly unreassuring, and comes off as a lightweight.
Obama's great skill was appearing presidential--he literally vaulted himself into contention and past Hillary Clinton by being a good speaker and looking damn good doing it. He had almost no credentials at all, but looked and sounded the part. As Biden said, "It's storybook, man."

Kamala is the opposite. She has all the credentials in the world. A prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President.
She just doesn't look and sound the part, and that is devastating. She has negative charisma.

That doesn't mean she can't win. She has all the resources in the world, when you count in the Establishment, the intelligence community, and the mainstream media.
But, in the end, she is Kamala. That's a pretty big obstacle to overcome.
