Democrats Finally Unburdened By What Has Been

meme

The Democrats are now wondering about what can be because they are finally unburdened by what has been.

You will be hearing that phrase a lot in the coming month, and it will be used in countless headlines because, while Kamala's delivery of the line is pathetic, it is easy to parody.

The same is true for Kamala herself, who, like Dan Quayle, was defined early in her tenure as Vice President as something of a buffoon. Certainly, in Quayle's case, the characterization was a bit unfair, but the image stuck and defined him to this day. I suspect that Kamala will have a hard time shaking her reputation as a lightweight and inept campaigner.

On the other hand, Republicans were facing a losing ticket in Biden-Harris and any uncertainty increases the risk that the trajectory could change. When the deck is stacked against you, it can't hurt to reshuffle the deck, and the Democrats have managed to do it.

Already, we see cracks in the Democrat Establishment's attempts to crown Kamala Harris as the presumptive nominee, and no doubt the dissenters are driven by Kamala's inability to speak coherently--a problem she suffers from as did her running mate, although for radically different reasons. I expect that Kamala will clear the field with the help of the establishment, but there are likely to be many Democrats disgusted by the process that got her there.

Kamala, you see, just fell out of a coconut tree and hit her head, or something similar happened. She is just not any good at this. She has more vulnerabilities than a quadriplegic on a modern urban battlefield and only appears superior to Biden because his brain is turning to mush before our very eyes.

When your main qualification is bare sentience, there must be a very low bar for getting the job. Kamala barely passes under that low bar.

It's no secret that Kamala's other qualifications--her status as a so-called "diverse" candidate in a party obsessed with representing everybody on the color spectrum from brown to black--are the reason that her sentience is her main qualification. Despite there being other black or brown candidates who likely would be more capable than she, Kamala also has the correct reproductive organs to fill the job.

A brown, black, and female candidate checks most of the necessary boxes, although she should consider coming out as bisexual and Queer to fill out the intersectional bingo card.

While most of the Establishment is trying to create Harrismentum, it's clear that there are dissenters. Obama, for one, is not apparently a fan--and that counts for a lot. While the grifters in the party are looking at that big pile of money sitting in the campaign's bank, Obama is looking at Harris' lack of political talent. And, as the last Democrat candidate with an ounce of talent, he is probably right to worry.

Some Democrat donors share similar concerns, although they are likely driven by her ideological commitments. The tech billionaires who were abandoning Biden are unlikely to be charmed by Kamala, and there are rumblings that some donors (likely a different group) are trying to get Joe Manchin into the race.

This is a dumb idea for a lot of reasons, and is as likely as Mitt Romney being chosen as their nominee.

The big problem Democrats face, though, is the activist base of their party, which is miles to the left of the country. Joe Biden has governed as a socialist, and Harris is not only going to have to own that record, but she will have to play to that base.

She owns the border crisis as much as Biden, and the GOP already is attacking her on the issue, reinforcing the negative sense voters have about her.

It's just possible that the Establishment can shove her into Biden's slot and make it stick, but a lot of activists are going to be ticked that this will be the third election in a row where the Establishment shoved a candidate down their throats. In 2016 it was Hillary!, in 2020 it was Biden, and now Kamala. There may not have been excitement about Biden 2024, but the whole process stinks to the populist wing of the Democrats.

Trump may have wanted to run against Joe, but his PAC has already lined up the attack ads and the first hit Twitter hours after Biden's announcement that he was dropping out and endorsing Cackling Kamala:

Brutal.

So is the election in the bag? Hardly. Because the Democrats now have a do-over, anything is possible. They just went from a certain loss to a conceivable victory, and that may not be good news for Trump.

Not to mention, if Kamala or whoever the Democrats pick gets in range, their ballot-harvesting machine might carry them over the top. Just get within the margin of cheating and let the machine do the rest.
