U.S. taxpayers are going to spend $320 million to build that famous pier--which is already behind schedule--to send supplies that will wind up in the hands of Hamas.
This is insane! $320 million for a "temporary pier"????

$320 million.
Don't expect Hamas to be grateful that American taxpayers are tossing in a third of a billion dollars to feed Gaza citizens. They need people suffering to make their propaganda campaign work, just as they need control over the flow of aid to ensure that their iron grip on the region remains secure.
Perhaps that is why Hamas has already attacked the pier construction--shooting mortars at the area, which is being protected by Israeli troops.
Don't worry, though. Our military leaders assure us that everything they do is risky, and supporting Hamas is a good enough cause for American soldiers to risk death.
While U.S. troops will not be deployed inside Gaza, U.S. officials say, security analysts have raised concerns about an array of threats, including speedboats packed with explosives, divers swimming in with mines and incoming rockets. They also have warned that if bottlenecks occur distributing aid flowing from the pier, it could upend the entire process.
Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Thursday that he had just received a briefing about security efforts for the pier and expressed confidence that the risks can be mitigated through collaboration with Israeli military forces and other nations who’ve pledged to help protect the operation.
“Nothing we do is risk-free,” the general said during an appearance at Georgetown University in Washington.
“I feel strongly that it will be protected,” he added. “That doesn’t mean it won’t potentially have some threat against it, but it’s something we are focused on.”
Good to know.
While it is true that nothing the military does is risk-free, it is also noteworthy that doing this particular thing is a choice, and it isn't a good one as much as I agree that avoiding civilian casualties and suffering is a worthy goal, time and again we have seen how Hamas has used humanitarian aid for its own purposes.
It's not like Hamas has shown any interest in alleviating Palestinian suffering. Quite the opposite.
US military begins construction of pier off Gaza for aid delivery missions

'Palestinian terrorists fired mortars toward the construction area... The IDF promised the Pentagon an entire battalion will be dedicated to safeguarding the port,' reports our @GuyAz pic.twitter.com/rkRF6GXgXq
Ironically, UN observers were inspecting the pier then and had to be rushed to safety.
Members of a terror group in the Gaza Strip launched mortars at an under-construction pier for a US-led project to bring aid into the Palestinian enclave yesterday, the military says.
The mortar attack occurred as United Nations officials were touring the site with Israeli troops on the coast of central Gaza, the IDF says in response to a query on the incident.
The IDF says the UN officials were rushed to a shelter by troops amid the attack.
UN officials also confirmed the mortar attack to the Associated Press, saying there were no injuries.
No word yet whether the pro-Hamas protesters around the world have applauded or condemned the attack yet, although I expect that they will condemn the United States' attempt to colonize the Gaza Strip.
The Biden administration is proving once again its unerring ability to see a problem and make it worse, putting US troops at risk unnecessarily and making things immeasurably worse for the people they claim to care about.
Sen. Roger Wicker (Miss.), the Senate Armed Services Committee’s top Republican, doubled down on his earlier criticism of the mission, saying after news of the mortar attack circulated that the plan was “ill-conceived from the start.”
“The risks to Americans will only intensify,” Wicker said in a statement. “President Biden should never have put our men and women in this position, and he should abandon this project immediately before any U.S. troops are injured.”
The best way to avoid human suffering in Gaza is to get the war over as quickly as possible. This is a lesson that has been taught to us time and again, at great cost to our troops and to the civilians we claim to care about.
Hamas could have and should have been defeated long ago. But Israel has been held back by our feckless leaders who have made things far worse and created a budding revolution here at home.
